What Is Hope About?
Set in an isolated village, the film follows a local police chief and his inexperienced deputy as they attempt to protect the community from a mysterious creature.

The film blends sci-fi, survival thriller and horror elements, building its story around the fear of confronting an unknown threat.
Na Hong-jin Returns After a Decade
Hope marks Na Hong-jin's return to filmmaking after a gap of nearly a decade.
The director previously made a mark with films such as The Chaser, The Yellow Sea and The Wailing. With Hope, he has also achieved another Cannes milestone—the film becomes his fourth consecutive feature to be invited to the prestigious festival.
Director on the Films Vision
Na Hong-jin said he wanted Hope to begin with the primal fear of encountering an unknown creature before expanding into a larger story about survival, human instincts and the consequences of fear.
He also aimed to create a world that feels immediate and unpredictable while retaining the scale and spectacle of a major cinematic experience.
