Covishield vaccine is 94 pc effective against Delta Variant: Study
Hamirpur: In the vaccine efficacy report from Public Health England, two doses of the AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine are estimated to provide 94 per cent protection against death from COVID-19 in people aged 65 and above.
Stating this today, a spokesman of the Health Department said that people should come forward to get themselves vaccinated against the virus.
The spokesperson informed that as per the latest data released by INSACOG, the proportion of known variants of concern, Delta, is the dominant lineage for new cases across all parts of India in recent samples and remains the most rapidly rising lineage globally. New data points to the efficacy of vaccination against severe disease by Delta Variant.
The spokesperson further informed that in recent 16 days analysis from 1 to 16 July 2021, regarding the admissions in the different medical colleges of Himachal Pradesh, it has been found that maximum admissions have happened in IGMC Shimla. The maximum number of single-day admission of COVID patients in IGMC in the last 16 days were 20.
He further said that Dr. YSPGMC Nahan had admitted 43 patients till 11 July 2021 and since then no COVID-related admission has happened till 16 July 2021.
The spokesperson appealed that the public to follow COVID-appropriate behavior like hand washing, wearing the mask and social distancing. (UNI)
