Delhi enforces winter pollution plan
With winter on the horizon in New Delhi, dread of the annual smog that season brings with it has also set in.
Starting today, the Indian capital is imposing strict and sweeping pollution curbs to tackle the toxic winter smog.
The restrictions include a ban on older vehicles registered outside the city, a suspension of dust-generating demolition activities and outdoor civil construction activities, doubling of parking fees to discourage the use of private vehicles and reduction of physical attendance in government and private-sector offices to 50%.
Agencies including the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, the Municipal Corporation, the city's transport department and traffic police have been tasked with ensuring a stringent enforcement of the winter pollution rules.
The measures will be implemeted for varying time frames, with some lasting until February 28.
"Delhi's Winter Action Plan 2026-27 comes into effect with stricter pollution controls, stronger enforcement and 24×7 monitoring. We humbly request all Delhiites to follow the guidelines and contribute towards making Delhi's air cleaner and healthier," Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's office said.
