India on Sunday expressed deep concern over the unfolding situation in Venezuela, a day after US forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife during a military operation in the South American nation.The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said New Delhi is closely monitoring developments and reiterated its support for the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people.“Recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of deep concern. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation,” the MEA said in a statement.India also urged all parties to resolve issues peacefully in order to maintain regional peace and stability.“India reaffirms its support for the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela. We call upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability in the region,” the statement added.The US launched the military operation in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, following repeated allegations that President Maduro was involved in drug trafficking, charges he had consistently denied. After the operation, US troops reportedly transferred Maduro and his wife to New York, prompting Venezuela to declare a national emergency.The MEA further said the Indian Embassy in Caracas is in contact with members of the Indian community and will continue to extend all possible assistance.
