CBI nabs rail e-ticket racket mastermind in Jaunpur
Jaunpur: Several people, including the mastermind of a rail e-ticketing racket, were taken in custody here in raids conducted by a team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths late on Tuesday night.They people were part of a racket in which Indian Railways website was reported to have been hacked and e-tickets ranging from general to Tatkal sold to people, causing heavy losses to the government.
According to CBI spokesperson Sushil Dewan, acting on a tip-off that a tour operator in Aandolanganj in the city was involved in selling forged e-tickets on a large scale, the CBI team raided the tour operator’s office and took several people in custody for questioning. Several other places were raided.During questioning the name of Anil Kumar Gupta cropped up as the mastermind of the racket, who was arrested and taken to a hospital for a medical check-up.
Dewan alleged that Gupta had pocketed crores of rupees by hacking the Railways website and selling forging e-tickets.The CBI would be producing Gupta before a magistrate on Wednesday and was expected seek transit remand to take him to Delhi for further questioning.Seven CBI teams are reported to have conducted raids in Jaunpur in connection with the e-ticket racket and raids were continuing.(UNI)
