India opens account in ongoing ISSF World Cup 2026
Sanyam won the silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup 2026 in Hangzhou, China, on Friday, securing India’s first medal of the competition. The 22-year-old Indian shooter finished second with a total score of 243.4, missing out on the gold medal by just 0.2 points.
The silver in Hangzhou was Sanyam’s second ISSF World Cup medal. She had also won a silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the 2025 ISSF World Cup Final in Doha, Qatar.
China’s Yao Qianxun won the gold with a score of 243.6, while Iranian Olympian Hania Rostamian finished third with 221.0.India’s multiple-time ISSF World Cup gold medallist Suruchi Singh finished seventh in the final with a total score of 137.6.
Sanyam, who had finished 10th in qualification with a score of 579-17x, reached the final because two shooters ranked ahead of her, including two-time Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, had competed only for Ranking Points Only (RPO), making them ineligible for the final.
Manu Bhaker topped the Indian contingent in qualification with a score of 582-12x and finished fourth, while Suruchi Singh scored 579-20x to finish ninth. Esha Singh (577-22x) and Lakshita (572-14x) finished 13th and 36th, respectively, in qualification.
Meanwhile, no Indian shooter could qualify for the final of the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event. Bhavesh Shekhawat was India’s best performer in the qualification round, finishing 22nd with a score of 577-17x. Onkar Singh, Anish Bhanwala, Pradeep Singh Shekhawat and Adarsh Singh also failed to qualify for the next round.
Athletes who win individual gold medals at the ISSF World Cup will qualify for the ISSF World Cup Final to be held in Rome in December.The Hangzhou shooting competition is a combined ISSF World Cup featuring rifle, pistol and shotgun shooters, and will conclude on Tuesday.
