Glacial Lake Outburst Flood in Bhutan Triggers Flood Alert in North Bengal and Assam!
A sudden flood triggered by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) at Bhutan's Shintaphu Lake has damaged roads and infrastructure, raising concerns across downstream areas.
A Red Alert has been issued along the Sankosh River in North Bengal and Assam.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kokrajhar and Dhubri.
More than 10,000 people have been shifted to relief centres in Alipurduar, while NDRF and SDRF teams have been deployed for rescue and emergency operations.
No casualties have been reported in Bhutan so far, but the threat of flooding continues in low-lying areas.
