Bobby Deol aged backwards in YRF' multistarrer 'Alpha'
Actor Bobby Deol has become one of the biggest talking points of Yash Raj Films’ action thriller “Alpha”, with audiences applauding the film’s seamless de-ageing visual effects that recreate the actor’s younger on-screen appearance.
The film, which is currently being released in theaters worldwide, has grossed over Rs 92.75 crore worldwide. A significant portion of the film features Bobby Deol in his younger days, reminiscent of his early films “Soldier,” “Gupt,” and “Barsaat,” which has been well-received by audiences.
Director Shiv Rawail stated that the purpose of the de-aging effect was not merely a technical display, but rather to enhance the emotional impact of the story. He added that the goal was to ensure that the technology was not felt by the audience, and that their focus remained solely on the story and acting.
Deol said that watching the years fade from his face was a unique experience for him. He added that technology has advanced significantly, but it is ultimately the actor’s responsibility to portray the emotions of a character with authenticity.
Sherry Bharda, Head of YFX Studios and YFX Supervisor, explained that the studio had, for the first time, combined AI and VFX on a large scale for an entire sequence. She added that despite limited reference material, the team paid particular attention to details such as skin, wrinkles, and eye expressions, ensuring the de-aging looked completely natural and the emotions of the actors were intact.
She noted that this achievement is a significant milestone for YFX Studios and demonstrates the studio’s continued investment in developing world-class filmmaking technology.
