Excel Entertainment Seeks Rs 40 Crore Compensation After Ranveer Singh Exits ‘Don 3’
Actor Ranveer Singh and Excel Entertainment are reportedly locked in a major dispute following his exit from the much-anticipated film ‘Don 3’, with the fallout turning into a financial standoff estimated at around Rs 40 crore, sources told Variety India.
According to multiple industry insiders, Excel Entertainment has claimed that Singh’s departure caused significant financial losses, including sunk development costs and setbacks related to scheduling, planning, and other pre-production activities. The production house has also reportedly issued a letter asking heads of various departments associated with the project to look for alternative work.
Sources said Excel Entertainment believes Ranveer Singh should compensate the banner for the losses incurred due to his exit. However, the actor is said to be strongly contesting the demand, maintaining that he is not liable to pay any compensation.
People close to Singh revealed that he has argued he has exited projects in the past without facing such financial claims and that this situation should not be treated differently. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source told Variety India that Singh decided to step away from ‘Don 3’ because he was dissatisfied with the script. “He kept requesting changes and was unhappy with the final draft. Excel, however, maintains that pre-production began only after Singh gave his approval,” the source said.
The disagreement was discussed during a two-hour meeting between Singh and representatives of Excel Entertainment last Friday, but the talks reportedly ended without a resolution. Insiders described the meeting as contentious, with both sides disputing responsibility for the project’s derailment and the resulting financial implications.
As the standoff continues, the Producers Guild of India (PGI) has stepped in to mediate between the two parties in an effort to resolve the dispute and prevent further escalation.
