CPI urges state govt to Withdraw Order on kidney transplants immediately

Communist Party of India
Communist Party of India (CPI) National Control Commission chairman K Narayana Sunday demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Telangana government’s Government Order on kidney transplants, warning that it could lead to exploitation of poor and vulnerable people.

In a video message from Guntur, Narayana said kidney transplantation had been associated with several illegal activities and crores of rupees in business in the past. He said strict regulations should ensure that kidney transplants are primarily restricted to blood relatives.

Narayana alleged that G.O. No. 33 could open greater opportunities for private and corporate hospitals to undertake kidney transplants, potentially turning the sensitive medical procedure into a commercial enterprise.

He cautioned that the entry of commercial interests into organ transplantation would adversely affect the poor and common people and primarily benefit corporate healthcare companies.

Narayana urged the Telangana government to reconsider the order, particularly in view of the possibility of it being taken up at the upcoming State Cabinet meeting, and demanded its immediate withdrawal in the interests of the poor.
