The last rites of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar were performed with full state honours at Vidya Pratishthan Ground in Baramati on Thursday, amid an overwhelming outpouring of public grief.

Ajit Pawar’s sons, Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar, performed the final rites at the funeral ground in his hometown. Lakhs of people gathered to pay their last respects to the senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader.

Several prominent leaders attended the funeral, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, and Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar.

Party workers and supporters from across Maharashtra arrived in large numbers, turning Baramati into a sea of mourners. Emotional slogans such as “Ajit Dada Amar Rahe” and “Ajit Dada Parat Yaa” echoed across the Vidya Pratishthan Ground as people bid farewell to the veteran leader.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid floral tributes by laying wreaths at the funeral.

Ajit Pawar passed away on Wednesday morning after the aircraft carrying him and four others crash-landed, killing all on board. Following the tragic incident, the Maharashtra government announced three days of state mourning across the state.

Ajit Pawar was the longest-serving Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, having held the post for six terms under different governments.
