US President Donald Trump has triggered fresh controversy after sharing an AI-generated image of himself depicted as Jesus Christ healing a sick man—shortly after launching a sharp public attack on Pope Leo XIV.
The digitally created image portrays Trump in flowing robes, placing his hand on an ailing figure in a scene reminiscent of biblical miracles, particularly the story of Jesus raising Lazarus. The visual is layered with symbolic elements, including the American flag, military aircraft, and angelic figures in the background, amplifying its dramatic tone.
Social media platforms such as X and Facebook saw intense debate, with users questioning whether the image was a joke, a political statement, or simply a provocative stunt.
The post followed Trump’s scathing criticism of Pope Leo XIV, whom he accused of being “weak on crime” and “terrible on foreign policy.” He also suggested that the Pope’s rise to the papacy was influenced by political considerations, even claiming that his own presidency played a role in Leo’s appointment after the death of Pope Francis.
In a lengthy statement on Truth Social, Trump defended his policies, asserting that he was elected in a “landslide” to enforce strict law-and-order measures and pursue an aggressive foreign policy stance. He criticized the Pope’s views on global issues, particularly tensions involving Iran, accusing him of being too lenient on matters such as nuclear weapons and international conflicts.
Trump also took issue with the Pope’s engagement with political figures he described as “left-leaning,” urging him to focus on religious leadership rather than political commentary. “Focus on being a great Pope, not a politician,” he said, warning that such positions were harming both the pontiff’s image and the Catholic Church.
