A legal dispute has emerged over the upcoming film 'Queen 2', with Phantom Studios approaching the Bombay High Court against JioStar India Private Limited, alleging that the project is being developed without its approval.
The production house has sought an interim injunction to stop the film's release and demanded Rs.250 crore in damages, claiming it holds a 50 per cent stake in the intellectual property rights of the 2014 hit 'Queen'.

The lawsuit, filed through law firm Rashmikant and Partners, argues that Phantom Studios never authorised the production of a sequel or any derivative work based on the original film.

The legal action comes days after actor Kangana Ranaut announced that filming for what she described as the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2014 movie had been completed.

"It has no narrative, character or creative connection to any prior work, and is neither a sequel nor a prequel to any existing title," the company said.

Released in 2014, Queen became one of the year's biggest critical successes and earned Kangana Ranaut the National Film Award for Best Actress. The film also won the National Award for Best Hindi Film.
