Sudha Chandran praises Ekta Kapoor, calls her casting vision unmatched
Actress Sudha Chandran has praised television producer Ekta Kapoor, describing her as a visionary creator whose sense of casting and storytelling has consistently proven successful.Recalling her experience of being cast in the iconic show Kahin Kisi Roz, Sudha Chandran said Ekta Kapoor’s confidence in her creative choices helped turn her character into one of the most memorable roles in Indian television history.
Speaking about her role as Ramola Sikand, Sudha said she initially felt hesitant about the dramatic tone of the character when shooting began. However, Ekta Kapoor’s assurance gave her immediate confidence. “When I met Ekta 4–5 days after the shoot began, I asked her, ‘Don’t you think this is a bit too loud?’ She simply told me, ‘Sudha ma’am, just wait for six months, you will be the talk of the town.’ That showed her futuristic thinking,” she recalled.
Sudha also praised Ekta Kapoor’s casting instincts, saying she always knows which actor fits which role best. “If Ekta chose me from so many people, it means she knows exactly which actor will do justice to a character. She has never been wrong in casting. That is true producing,” she said.
Highlighting Ekta Kapoor’s long-standing impact on Indian television, Sudha said her shows have become cultural landmarks in many households. From redefining family dramas to introducing trendsetting supernatural thrillers, Ekta’s creative risks have often paid off despite initial skepticism.
Sudha also referred to the revival of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, noting that many doubted whether the show could reconnect with audiences after 25 years, but it still became a number one show.
