PM Modi’s Gujarat Visit Triggers Assembly Schedule Change; 3-Day Monsoon Session Starts Sept 9
The schedule for the upcoming monsoon session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly has been revised, with the three-day session now set to begin on September 9 instead of September 8.
According to a fresh notification issued by the Governor, the ninth session of the Gujarat Assembly will be held on September 9, 10 and 11 in Gandhinagar. Despite its short duration, the session is expected to see important legislative and administrative business, including the introduction and passage of several government bills.
Session Dates Changed Due to PM Modi’s Gujarat Visit
The change in the Assembly schedule has been made in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Gujarat on September 8.
Several political and government programmes are planned during the Prime Minister’s visit, requiring the presence of state ministers and senior officials. The Assembly session was therefore shifted by a day and will now commence on September 9.
Following the revised notification, the Assembly Secretariat has circulated the updated schedule to legislators and concerned government departments.
Day One to Begin With Tributes
The first day of the session will begin with a customary condolence reference before regular legislative business gets underway.
The House is expected to pay tribute to former legislators, serving members and other prominent personalities who passed away recently. Leaders from both the ruling party and the Opposition are likely to recall their contributions to Gujarat’s development and public welfare.
Members will then observe a two-minute silence in memory of the deceased before the proceedings continue with the scheduled legislative business.
Key Bills Likely to Be Introduced
The three-day session is expected to feature several important bills concerning public interest and land revenue reforms.
One of the key proposals likely to come before the House is an amendment to the Land Fragmentation Act, which could have implications for farmers and landowners in the state.
Other reform-related bills may also be introduced and taken up for discussion and passage during the session.
Question Hour to Raise Statewide Issues
The session will also include a starred question hour, allowing legislators to raise issues concerning different parts of Gujarat.
Questions related to law and order, development projects, public services and other matters of state administration are expected to feature during the proceedings.
With the Opposition likely to raise issues concerning governance and public welfare, the three-day session could witness significant exchanges between the treasury benches and Opposition members.
Despite being brief, the September 9-11 session is expected to be important for the Gujarat government as it seeks to push through key legislative and administrative measures.
