A fresh controversy has erupted surrounding the famed Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple after reports surfaced alleging that gold and precious ornaments from the temple treasury have gone missing.
According to reports, around 78 grams of gold donated by devotees and a diamond-studded ornament known as “Vaira Nama” are currently untraceable from the temple inventory. The issue is being treated as highly sensitive, with the State Police Chief reportedly submitting a detailed report to the Home Secretary over concerns related to the security and management of the temple’s valuables.

The “Vaira Nama,” a sacred diamond ornament traditionally kept inside the sanctum sanctorum, has allegedly remained missing for a considerable period. Reports claim official records indicate that the ornament had been taken out several months ago for repair work but was never returned to its designated place.
In another reported case, a gold lamp that had allegedly been removed for maintenance nearly six months ago is also yet to be traced.

Following the developments, police authorities have reportedly issued a series of strict security recommendations aimed at protecting the temple’s priceless assets. These include shifting all gold and silver items currently stored outside underground vaults into highly secured strong rooms, placing devotees’ offerings under locker protection, and increasing police deployment around the treasury and temple premises.
Authorities have also reportedly recommended tighter screening procedures within the temple complex, stating that no person should be allowed entry without proper security checks. Police officials are understood to have sought urgent government intervention to strengthen security arrangements at the temple.
The controversy comes amid earlier concerns surrounding alleged irregularities involving valuables at Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple and other temples in Kerala, where reports of missing gold and cash had sparked debate in recent months.
