New Delhi: on Friday allowed government to hold local body polls scheduled for December 27 and 30 across the state, except in nine reconstituted districts.
"The state of Tamil Nadu can conduct the local polls as per the schedule, except in nine districts which are reconstituted," a bench of the Apex Court, headed by (CJI) S A Bobde, said in its order.

The court accepted Tamil Nadu State election commission's submission from yesterday. While the local body polls, the court said, will be conducted as per schedule, polls in the nine newly-bifurcated districts will be held in four months after delimitation is conducted.

The Top court passed the order after hearing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK ) Party--the petitioner in the case--, Election Commission of India (ECI) and others.

The DMK had moved the court seeking striking down of the  state Election Commission order of conducting the local elections in the state.(UNI)
